telebirr supports organizations to initiate and transfer money to customers/beneficiaries in bulk in real time. Organizations must be registered for bulk payment account and have sufficient balance in their trust fund account.

Register for bulk payment in telebirr platform.

Initiate bulk payment such as G2P/B2C/B2P bulk payment, Salary/pension payment, foreign aid disbursement…  through web.

Upload and execute a group transaction by uploading a data file of beneficiaries which includes names, payment reason, beneficiaries MSISDN, payment amount using CSV/excel format.

International bulk payment

  • International relief organizations receive significant aid funding from donors which they regularly disburse in high volume, low-value payments to recipients. International relief organization is becoming important consumers of telebirr bulk payment products.
  • Ethio telecom will engage with these organizations that need to process a bulk payment using telebirr platform.
  • The user organization has to transfer funds to Ethio telecom’s foreign currency bank account. Simultaneously Ethio telecom will create and deposit an equivalent amount of pay local currency with the prevailing exchange rate.After getting the e-float, the user organization via its API will upload the beneficiary’s data like name, mobile phone number and transfer amount in a required format or Ethio telecom will upload the data following the provided template from the user.
  • Transfer the fund to the account of each end-user and notify both parties, i.e., the sender and the receiver. Ethio telecom will apply a service charge.
  • If recipients are registered customers, the transferred money will be credited to their wallet account but if the recipients are not registered customers, they will get a voucher code. Customers can cash out their money from the nearest agent outlets.

How Customer use Mobile Money service?

  1. Request initiated from customer to cash in “X” amount of ETB
  2. Choose menu “Cash in”, then input:
    • Customer’s MSISDN,
    • Amount, and
    • Agent PIN
  3. Submit cash in request
  4. Moving funds between Customer MM Accounts and agent MM account
  5. Apply Charging and Commission
  6. Deliver Transaction confirmation notification via SMS for both Customer and agent
  7. Customer gives cash to agent

  1. Request initiated from customer to cash out “X” amount of ETB from Agent
  2. Choose menu “Cash Out”, then input:
    • Agent’s MSISDN,
    • Amount,
    • Customer PIN
  3. Submit cash out request
